Monocortical Miniplate Osteosynthesis in Mandibular Fracture by Intraoral Approach

Abstract
Internal rigid fixation by plate and screw of the jaws and facial bones is employed in trauma surgery, reconstructive surgery following tumor resections and orthognatic maxillofacial surgery.
In the management of a patient 16 year-old male with monocortical miniplate osteosynthesis by intraoral approach for fixation of parasymphysis mandibular frac-ture, the authors came to following results.
1. We could not seen the scar tissue as extraoral approach and encountered no
dislocation of fragements or disturbance in healing by intraoral method.
2. Monocortical screw and plate fixation has the advantage of less risk to the teeth
and neural or vascular structure with easily plate control and, good adaptation of the bone. 3. According to immediate removal of intermaxillary fixation after operation, the patient rapidly returned to the society without mouth opening and phonetics, mastication disorders after operation.
